“I am happy with what I am making right now, which I think well matches the current market price. I am looking for a job primary for my career advancement, blah blah” if he insists, tell him as such: the ballpark i am looking for is between such and such. Give him a range, so he has a a number to fall back on and also set your expectation as well for your further pay negotiation.
