be aware of tax consequence on lump-sum payout

There is no standard. Both have pros and cons -
1) If you ask for lump sum payout, make sure you understand the tax consequence. You must negotiate in contract, asking the lump sum amount is after all taxes.
2) Invoice reimbursement is easier to handle, but you will not be able to save any.
