Ask your friends/colleagues to give you good comments there. A lot of companies and head hunters are silently looking at these sites. And if they feel you are good, they will contact you. Honestly this is much more efficient than doing the original post suggested to do.
Keep in mind, once a person hates you, they will remember and hate you for a long time.
Well just my 2 cents. you of course have your own experience and I am not saying this way is bad.
Try LinkedIn, Monster etc
