In one-one scenario, they have attuned their talking points to you and your style. but in a group scenario, they don't have to do that.  As a result, you don't know what to say and when to interrupt.  what you need is to learn how to engage others for conversations. basically looking for common interests or at least what interest others. It is basic social skills, but hard for people coming from different culture background.
