like any rule in workplace, one has to read the situation at work and determine if this rule is applicable or not.
For me, chat over lunch is my main approach to establish and maintain relationships with my peers and higher-ups. Chit chat before or after meetings or casual emails is another way. The goal is to stay connected with folks who are important in business so they feel they know very well and can trust you.
