What is your skill sets? Is it easy to find another job?
Some contract job, with right skill sets, can work from home for many years.
If you do not need health insurance for the job, if you have kids to take care now, take a higher pay work from home job is golden.

On te other hand, if that job is NOT stable and hard to find another one with yuor skill sets, then, definitely take the gov job.
$10k salary difference is not big if your salary is not too low.
