since I am leaving for a company that is not my current company's direct competitor, I do not have to leave the company immediately after I resign, unless my manager gets mad and fires me....

yes, you are right, if someone is quitting for a direct competitor, then he/she must leave right away but getting two weeks' pay without doing anything.

I mainly want to find out if I could tell my manager next Tuesday (4/16) and then stay throughout the end of the month with my current company. That is also a 2-week notice.
