working in NY

We are considering relocation for an work opportunity in NY. THe office is in downton NY. Non financial related type. Family with school age kids.

1. What to discuss with employee for relocation help?

2. I know the living cost there is higher. I heard that many people live in surburb and commute.

Any suggestion as, which surburb, school district (public school) is good? ave. housing cost? rental cost? commute time... etc.
