"My Mind's Made Up" Letter:
Dear Mr. Stars:
This is to inform you that I have accepted a position with (XYZ Company) and will be starting with my new employer on 00/00/00. I want to assure you of my gratitude for a rewarding professional association during my employment with ABC Company. This decision was not an easy one, and involved many days and hours of thoughtful considerations, particularly with respect to my own plans for the future. Nevertheless, my decision is final. Please do not make this process more difficult than it needs be by discussions of the reason, or whether or not it can be changed.
My main thoughts are now to work as hard as possible to wrap my assignments here, and turn over my responsibilities as you direct. However, I would like to join XYZ Company as soon as possible. Therefore, if possible I request that you waive my termination notice.
With sincere thanks, and best wishes for the future.
"Grateful, Helpful" Letter
I want to thank you for all you have done for me here at XYZ Company. It has been a pleasure working with you, and representing the company as your Technical Administrator.
I have accepted an offer with another firm and have decided to tender my resignation. My last date of employment will be December 25, 1999. This decision has nothing to do with the exceptional opportunity you have provided me here. You and the company have been more than fair with me, and I genuinely appreciate all your support.
I wish XYZ Company continued success and I want to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your team. Please feel free to contact me at any time if I can be of further assistance in helping with a smooth transition.
