Fisrt I have to say I am not on same side of business as you do, I am more on fundamental side of research and fund management.
I would say you can find it easier to switch to quantatitive portfoilio management or Quant research in quant fund. We have some of thses funds in house and quant are the main brains there, so you know the compendation level.
If you switch to quant team in a fundamental shop(unless in derivative or some FI group), you will be mostly doing quant research and system development as supporting role(vs main brain). However the compensation could be good if you are the top quant in team.
Just my two cents.
