I am going to use this incident to talk with my boss about the situation here. The guy may not be that good with technical stuff. but he has other strength and resource that no one else can have. What he needs to learn is that even with his background, he needs something solid to show his capability. This solid achievement does not have to be a project etc. He can be in a somewhat PR role in the team. Building relationship with others and top level is also important. Everyone has his/her strength, just needs a niche to shine.
