Add an OBJECTIVE on your resume may necessary if you apply for school jobs. In real world, for most big high tech companies, saying like Google, Yahoo, or Apple, each team or groups make the selection to pick up candidates for first screen. Who will get in for interview? If we look software engineer, we will check KEY word as C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, PHP or whatever the language you may know, plus if you have related experience and education. If we look for operation engineer, we will check your resume if you know Unix, Linux, network & TCP/IP, switch, apache, storage ...etc. Why I said OBJECTIVE is NOT necessary on your resume because we rate the skill set more important, and OBJECTIVE can be found from your cover letter... I am a technical person, once I pick up resume for interview, I look for skills and quality, never throw resumes away because OBJECTIVE is not there on resume, I know my peers do the something. So Add an OBJECTIVE on your resume is really not necessary if you look engineer positions, but no one stop you to add it if you think that is important.
