If you don't have industry mechanical design experience in US, the chance you directly find a design engineer job is low. You might have to start your career as a drafter. Drafter positions are usually eliminated in the first round of layoff during recession. Mechanical jobs are NOT as many as IT or accounting jobs. Mechanical engineers seldom change their jobs. So there are few openings on the job market. Many companies outsourced the mechanical jobs to Asia. This is a sunset career. If you are still at 20's or 30's, it would be better to go back to school to get an accounting degree.
