Managing skills

While I'm applying for a manager position and played by my Indian manager, I appealed to his manager, VP of IT.  He kept on asking me "Show me your managing skills". 

I'm strong on technical so I know which developer is working hard or not - that's tech lead.

I'm strong on co-ordinating with Business, QA and Deployment teams - that's PM.

Yes, managing skills.  How would you motivate your developer, attendance, deal with conflicts, etc.

With that in mind, I learned a lot from an American manager with PMP background only.
