Talk with B and marketing VP. It would be nice to go if B and marketing VP welcome you to join the department. It doesn't matter if B said bad thing behind your back or not. I wouldn't go if B and marketing VP didn't give me a warm welcome.I normally tell my friends to stop if they tried to tell me who said bad thing behind my back. I just don't wnat to listen to negative things. I turn to ignore them. Just get my work down and enjoy my life.
