Since you have 10 years public accounting firm experience, I think that you can start your own practice right now. You can do bookkeeping and tax preparation.You need some bookkeeping work to keep your business year around.Then you can scratch your tax clients. By the time when you reach 65, if you still have clients, you can sell your practice or you can just continue to serve your tax clients so that you will only work for part of the year. This is my goal. BYW, I just decide to start my own practice and get my first bookkeeping client. For CPAs working in a small firm, that is probably the best way to go.
