一直想對accounting做些總結。一來給自己幾年的accounting 工作經驗屢一屢，二來想也許對剛上accounting路的同學有些小幫助。歡迎會計前輩排磚。熱烈期待與同行交流經驗與認識。
一. 什麽是會計
提起會計，很多人，尤其是學理工科的同學首先想到的是這樣一幕：電影裏的帳房先生帶著一副老花鏡，一手持帳本，一手在拔了算盤。很多同學對會計不屑一顧，一個記帳的，有什麽意思。其實不然。
記帳隻是會計最底層的表象。會計的職能可以從兩方麵說。
1。 對external user. 對於上市公司來說，公司定期要向證監所提交會計報表. 一句話，會計在這裏的作用就是要提供financial statements that comply with GAAP(General Accepted Accounting Principle). 一句話說的簡單，可公司為了提供這樣一份報表要有一整套的會計人馬, 有一整套的會計policy滲透到公司運營的方方麵麵，有一整套的internal control over financial reporting to reduce business risk. 經過審計的財務報表來有這樣幾個用途：在capital market 上，投資者通過對報表的分析了解公司的資金運營，負債情況，償債能力，現金周轉力，投資收益率，營利能力，這些分析叫做financial analysis. 通過這樣的分析，投資者決定投資方向。這就是為什麽SEC要求financial statements要annual audit，因為它的integrity,決定了資金流向，影響著股市，操作著人們對資金市場的信心。另外，公司的creditor, regulator 也需要財務報表來決定是否給公司提供/延期/曾/減貸款，以及供稅務部門來作為收稅的依據。
就像resume對於一個人，是別人了解你的基本依據，financial statements 是一個公司的resume.
2.對於 internal. Internally, 財務報表主要是給management用來掌握公司運營狀況，分析與預算差距，發現管理漏洞，提高成本控製，增加營利能力。
可以這樣講，了解會計可以賦予你對公司結構，運營關係的掌握，並賦予你對公司發展規劃，策略方向的insight.太多的公司高管都是會計出身。因為會計賦予了他們對公司的全麵了解和駕馭公司航行的能力。
還有人認為會計不過是一帳房先生嗎？
二．會計在公司裏的function
會計由這樣幾個bulk組成：
Accounts payable – duties including review invoice, get proper approval for payment, AP check run, cash di*****ursement，interact with vendors
Accounts receivable – duties including issue invoice, cash application, interact with customers for mis-payment, over-payment, non-payment
Payroll- manage all payroll related taxes including withholding employee taxes and remit taxes to tax authorities, run payroll and make payroll payment
Corporate accounting- 上述職能之外的所有會計職能。Including：make journal entry, perform month end closing, maintain balance sheet account, review trial balance to make any adjustment, perform ad-hoc financial reports for management, conduct various financial analysis including actual to budget variance analysis, profitability analysis, cost efficiency analysis etc, present and communicate financial result to non-financial readers.
近年來SOX 404 act的implementation,公司越來越多重視對內控製度的規範與加強。很多公司在corporate accounting這一塊加上了: review accounting policy, analyze business risk, improve accounting policy and internal control efficiency, interact within organization to ensure the implementation of accounting policy.
