They will offer a severance package, usually up to 8 weeks' pay. If you resign, you will not get anything besides yoru accumulated vacation time. For job hunting, it is not much of an impact. The only thing HR can tell your future employer is how long you served in this company (start date and end date), usually not even pay rate without your authorization.
