well, I think it is bad sign. It means either you are too capable that you are threaten your boss's position, or you are too not capable he wants to get ride of you. I think your case is more close to the first choice because I am on the same shoes as you. The good things is that I dont want to be in the current company forever. Therefore, I am ok with the change and try to learn as much as I can. Of course, looking for a good opportunity outside. I am almost getting two offer now, very big company, change the industry to me. I cannot wait to start to working there.

in my opinion, it is their lose, it is not yours. A manager cannot accept another person is doing better, that tells me he/she is not fully confident inside of themselves. His approach only can make the team worse, not better.
