Steam Turbine - Machine Shop Engineer
Candidates with applicable industry experience include individuals with:, steam turbine, steam turbine generator, centrifugal or axial compressors, turbo machinery blade impeller or gas expander experience. Equipment types and size vary depending on the customer specifications. Each unit is individually engineered to meet the customer needs and equipment ranges include: Single Stage and Multi-Valve Multi-Stage Steam Turbines from 3000 HP to 93,870 HP / 2000 psi with speeds of 2500 to 15,000 rpm; Oil Lubrication systems with flow rates of 2 gpm to 1600 gpm with pressure ranging from 5 psi to 4350 psi and piping diameters of 1/2" to 42"; and single stage and multi-stage centrifugal compressors from 10" diameter to 110" diameter that range from 10 psig to over 8500+ psig.

This is an individual contributor position. Strong interpersonal and communication are utilized on a daily basis to interface with field service, sales and skilled trade staff internally as well as external customers and engineers. Must be able to develop, implement and maintain shop and safety procedures. Considered a technical liaison between shop and customer service. Involved in machine shop tooling and fixture design and implementation. Researches job performance and systems in order to suggest / implement improvement. 75% of job function is governed at least in part by existing policy and procedures. This position does require a flexible minded individual who is able to think on their feet and respond to shifting priorities. A creative / innovative open mind is essential. Must be experienced at conducting Kaizan events as well as the implementation of Lean manufacturing.
The ideal incumbent must possess a Mechanical Engineer degree AND two years work experience with: steam turbine, compressors and/of the machining/designing of capital equipment. Experience with a highly skilled trade metal stock job shop a must working with lathes, turrets and milling machines with 102" of swing. Stock material manually and NC machined can weigh up to 60 ton. Experience with propeller shafts and seals a plus. Solid understanding of AutoCAD and PRO-E.
Candidates with a Certified Engineering Technologist degree and seven years work experience with steam turbines, compressors and/or the machining of large capital equipment will be considered. Rotating equipment experience a must.
