I am at step 8 right now in a local CPA firm, working primarily on audit. I am weak in 人事和政治, but somehow gained the trust from the firm's owner.
Typically, you can not stay in one position for too long in a CPA firm. At each level, you should plan to stay for only 1-4 years, then move up. The firm wants to promote people.
In my point of view, MBA does not add much value in a CPA firm.
