sounds like she does not have much for you to do. But obviously she wants to keep you around in case soemthing comes up in the future. So it is a good time for you to do some freelancing. I would use the opportunity to find work to collaborate with other departments to set a big network. would be good if you want o change group or if you have stuff to do in the future, these will be yoru resource. She would appreciate it if you can network and if you can establish an area for the group to work on. Just my 2 cents.
