fair enough

I believe your describe here is quite fair.
Although I am a Chinese worked in different fields, including engineering industry. I have same feeling. That is why I will ask a lot of questions regarding working environment when recruiting people, especially, who came from traditionally having bias view with male-female. I came tall a lot of stories about what is their facial and body reactions when those questions were asked. After being screened out some people, my team is much better.

If, unfortunately, you have to work in this bad environment, my suggestion is just see no-evil, heir no-evil and say no-evil. then find other place to work.
