Tell the truth. I just got a new job recently and the new company actually got everything and compared with what I provided side by side. I know this because I required a copy of the background checking report when I filled the application form.
My job title was changed before I quitted my previous job but I used the old job title. So, I had to immediately e-mail HR to explain it.
I also heard some people who did lie and got much higher salary. I don't think that they got good sleep sometimes though.
Anyway, it is trade off, right? Higher risk, higher salary. My point is that companies can find everything out if they want.
Good luck!
