It is not unusual for employers in the transportation sector to screen job candidates' driving record. Likewise, if the prospective job entails a significant amount of driving, it makes sense for the employer to do a background check including the job-seeker's driving history.
Otherwise, I would be cautious in consenting to such a check, especially if my driving record is less than perfect. The reason? Some employers may draw undue conclusions about me as a job candidate that have nothing or little to do with my other, more pertinent, credentials.
