in big company and small private company is not in point here.
they both have something good going on for them: their hard-earned career, status, which are their fortunes.
Suppose if you are one of them, would you be so general to share your good fortune with whoever? Or would you be so foolhardy that you would share it with who has a sweet mouth?
No, you wouldn't, because you would not be there if you have been such a fool.
SO why somebody still got promoted by their bosses, who zealously guard against their good fortunes? Because they have value and they solve the bosses problems.
The deduction from an employee's value here to responsibility sharing in my conclusion is left for you to make, if you are interested.
