generally, managers should be generous to employees. Small things like this, as far as it is not against company policy, should not be big issues. of cause you should know people like that are not suitable for important positions and more responsibilites because they do not have good work ethics. These are usually low performers despite their technical skills and you should look for replacement within the group to gradually take over their work. building up a trust-worthy team is first things first.
