he has to live together with his friend's wife and 2 kids and leave you (his girlfriend) alone.

You bf can take part of his friend's responsibilities if he want, but it doesn't mean he needs to take the place of his friend's role (i.e. be a hu*****and and father) in the family. Otherwise it will sound weird.
