it's law that employer has to pay overtime work but each manager has a budget for overtime hours. I assume you don't have his pre-approval for overtime right? you put him into an awkward situation here.

if he said, "berry, you did a great work", then he admited your overtime, and by law, they have to pay you.

managers don't like non-preapproved overtime. but i don't think he hates you. You just did not handle overtime carefully. it's very sensitive
