If you follow your hu*****and's direction, after you have the master degree and pass all 4 parts of CPA exam, you may be able to get an entry level staff auditor position in a regional CPA firm. You are right, the Big 4 are only interested in young blood through campus recruiting. Your age and lack of accounting experience will place you in a smaller CPA firm, where your are still expected to work 50-60 hours per week and lots of travel. If you hang out there for 3-4 years, you will have a good chance to move up to higher paid senior positions, or move to corporate accounting. But the starting salary in entry level for public accounting is only 38K to 45K. Just for money and work load's sake, your new offer seems to be a better choice.
But more importantly, if you are going to work 50-60 hours a week, you better choose the work that you truly like. You have already established a good resume in Marketing, why waste it? Accounting is the extremely opposite career to marketing. It is very detail oriented and totally not creative. You have to ask your self what is your personality. If you are already very good at marketing, either in China or the US, I felt your personality may not fit into accounting career.
If starting accounting was a wrong decision, you don't have to stick to it.
