my group in this big company. almost the same. GM is a tyrant. his 2nd in command was recruited because they know each other and this person has absolutely no opinion of his own. Everyone else around the tyrant is a cheer leader. the group went down hill like free fall. But people in this group still think it is a high performance group. Either they are crazy or I am.
