In the case of I need hire a position quickly, after interview, if I like the candidate, I will let the Agent tell her/him start next week.
If I feel the candidate is not strong and not worth to hire, I will tell Agent that it is a pass.
If I feel the candidate is not strong but a may be, I will tel the Agent hold it, waiting for more interviews.

In your case, emial or call will be OK to find out the result if you feel time is not in your side. Otherwise, you can wait till theyy tell you the result.
