Those Chinese people went to States and those to Canada have different profiles.
Those to States were often studients or scholars and eventually became professionals. They probably make better living overall, therefore have bigger house and better cars. Since they are mostly study-oriented, they may see things differently, like they tend to push kids more academically.
Those to Canada were ofter mature (i.e. middle aged) people with years life and work experiences from China and see life more practically and realistically. It's true they often came for the sick of their kids' future (in truth, it is worthwhile in the end). Often these adults have less competitiveness in terms of launguage and technical skills. But because of they are responsible and practical Chinese, they survive by doing whatever it takes, ie. being store ower, etc.
Just to blabla a little, haha...
