not necessarily. my monthly pay is 6% higher than that of my industry pay (and I consider my industry was very good). But as a faculty, you only get 9 month pay, you may get some summer support in the first few years though, after that you can pay yourself through research grants if you have.
as a faculty, you can get paid till the age of 70, but in industry (engineering field), you may be laid off at 55.
money is not an issue, actually over the long run, you get more money.
the amount of hours you have to spend is the issue, in industry you get decent pay working from 9am to 5pm, but you have to put more hours as a faculty.
You need to have strong publications during the past three years to get a position. It is very tough to get a faculty position these days.
