- depends on which major she is in.
- in general,NMR/NMI is one speciality of solid state or physics application in bio/medicine. it requires quite a lot classes & research study to get PhD in NM*
- phd in physics is strong in modeling & stat (by default?), go with data mining related stuff might be practical & easier. get SAS certificate (somebody suggested) should be fairly easy (& it takes short time) for a phd in physics
