I think you made a very common mistake for people who are new to industry. I made the same mistake too. Your project even though is hard and takes lots of your energy, is a not an important project at all. Next time, remember to find out what is on "critical path", i.e. must-have instead of nice-to-have. As far as the project is on critical path, you will be appreciated.
