回複:Thanks!

a director in industry has a lot of power, at least s/he can decide others promotion, salary, etc. I do not think University R&D center director can do so.
you may work on the center R&D strategy, help to obtain funding, build industry/government connections, coordinate research among different groups, etc.
I guess the university value your industry management experience.
If offering a tenure track, may try to push for a tenure-track associate position (I do not think they will offer you a tenure track full position), and ask for 6 years tenure clock so that you have enough time to develop your own research. Also what is their tenure expectation? the management activities will surely deviate you from doing research, so make sure the expectation is realistic.
as a director, you may get better pay, I think, due to the extra time y have to spend on management activities.

many tenured professors do not want to take management job. if your goal is to do good research, the director position may not help. but if you climb to even higher position, that is a differnt strory. but still most of the time, people who can climb to higher position in a university are still those who do good research and are well known in his field.

just my 2cents.
