- Was he mainly in QA tools development side or QA testing side?
- Did he focus more on functional testing or performance testing? If functional testing, how did he develop his test cases systematically? If performance testing, how did he find out/estimate performance bottlenecks? Give examples.
- Any automation experience?
- Any experience of building their own test harness/framework?
- Any experience of using 3rd party tools, such as Selenium, Loadrunner, JMeter, etc.
- If he was more of a developer but apply for a QA position now, or if he was more of a QA engineer but apply for a developer position now, ask him why. And what is his longer term career goal.
- Besides tools development or QA testing itself, what else did he do in his previous position? (this is to find out if he did any coordination work and communication work with other teams)
- If you want to check his coding skills there are so many questions you can find from Internet...
- If you have a real case/issues in your work you can ask him how he would analysis/solve the problem in the situation...
