Don't bother about the contract. Just get some free and easy money, first unemployed benefits, then maternity benefits. After you get your baby and relax for a while, go back to apply for another job.

You are actually better off now. The last thing your professor have done to you is good. You are kind of like being laid off, so you can get all benefits.
