It is a different story.

If you were hired as a bookkeeper but you only worked as a data entry clerk, I am not going to say you were a real bookkeeper in that position.

I have to agree that lots of bookkeeper positions do not really contain bookkeeper tasks, or maybe partially cover some of those tasks.

I still believe if you really want, a data entry position provide you valuable work experiences too.
