I wouldn't say because I got laid off, I would say something like, "I'm very interested in this position (and also your company), I think my skill set makes me a good/perfect match for this position....blablabla..."
Most likely your current employment status will be asked during an interview, and you should just tell the truth that you got laid off. Nowadays, this is not something you need to be shy about. Even though you got laid off, you shouldn't say things bad about your previous employer during the interview.
