I'd suggest you change your work style. I'd think if your boss check at you all the time, it may indicate she wasn't updated as she felt comfortable. No one knows exactly how fast a project should be; it's a matter you and your boss are on the same page. Talk to her everyday proactively about anything about the project, talk to her every time when you run into some situations. Don't be afraid she'd be bored or bothered by these talks. Then you'll see the changes from your boss.
