Big boss has always been the one to make final decision. For my project, I make the design and he decides we want to do it. so in a sense, he has always been involved as the decision-maker. This time, he obviously wants to be involved more directly and asked me to include him in the team. I actually refused to ahve him initailly and he was fine with it except that he let me know that i need to report to him more frequently of the progress. I did nto want to have too many one-on-ones, so later, I added him to the team meeting. Now that my own boss and the other sr director are fighting for the leading role of this project, I think the big boss being included in the team would be a good way to leverage the 2 big wolves and let them back off a bit.
but I do want to ask big boss whether his intention was to make sure I do the right thing, meaning that he does not trust me to do the right thing or other intentions. BTW, I think he sabotaged my internal interview. I hope he did not, but at his level, it would be as easy as making a casual phone call. That internal position was just eliminated during "re-org", when the HM assured me of the position during interview. Should I confront him about this? I soooo want to.
