Preparing for the Interview (ZT)

Use the days or weeks before an interview to perform the following 12 tasks:

1. Learn about the organization to which you're applying.  Start by checking out the target company's website and do a search-engine search on the company name.

2. Learn about the role of your target position (the job for which you're applying) within the organization.

3. Try to find out about the organization's special needs, goals and problems.  Business news publications, both in print and online, are good sources for this material.

4. Formulate some ideas about how you can fulfill the needs, help achieve the goals, and solve the problems you learn about.

5. Prepare a concise list of your accomplishments.  Limit the list to specific accomplishments that are relevant to the target position.

6. Formulate your salary needs before you come to the interview.

7. Prepare answers for the 10 most frequently asked interview questions.  Prepare 10 questions that you should ask.

8. Prepare an Interview Kit.  (to be elaborated later in another post)

9. Ensure that you have appropriate attire for the interview.

10. Be sure you have accurate information covering all of the interview logistics, including the exact time and place of the interview.

11. Make sure that you know how to get to the interview and how long it will take to get there.

12. Obtain and carry with you all necessary names and contact numbers.  These include the names and numbers of everyone you may have spoken to on the telephone in connection with the interview.
