how to deal with this kind of co-worker, please advise....

As everyone in the team is expected by the manager to be a dev lead because we have dev team in India and we shouldn't be just a developer. This male co-worker in our team likes to control everything, and to some extream, he likes to lead us. He has his own projects, but he likes to interfer with other team members. My manager finally assign me to a project, and I told the team I'll be attending a meeting for the xxx project. His reaction is really out of proportion. He send me an email last night asking me why he didn't get invited? I didn't reply. This morning the moment I loggged into the computer, I got his IM and asked me about that xxx project, and if I can forward him the invitation. I said the manager want me to be the contact of this xxx project and I cannot forward the invitation. He said it's ok. Than a few mins ago, he send me another email and told me he already talked with Manager and asked to forward the meeting invitation. I just send his email and cced manager "I'll be attending the first meeting of xxx project this afternoon, and I'll keep the team updated if there is any changes to and I'll be the contact for this effort."
I'll still so mad about his intrusive manner, but I dont' want a bad relatioship with our co-workers. It's just so bad to work in such a competitive environment and with such control freak.
Please tell me what you would do to improve this situation? and how you would deal with such co-worker? and how you would say to your manager? Thanks!
