you have to talk with your boss why his change. just as you said, the production launch depends on the other groups too. If one of the groups drop the ball, it wouldn't happen. I guess there might be some misunderstanding between you guys.

1. set up a meeting with him about this change. express your concern. Such as how many other groups will be involved in this thing.
2. Ask him if he has talked with other groups? if not, ask your boss who/how to communicate the other groups.
3. If he told you that you would be the key person to coordinate everything, then you give him a reasonable deadline.

This might be a chance for your to extent your responsibility too.
