New boss is forming her opoinion towards each individual, but she will compare her opinion with previous manager. If your former boss thinks your are under-perform, then it will be very hard for you to persuade her otherwise.

Another suggestion: when you talk to her, try to find her performance objectives for 2009, and you need to arrange your work along her objectives and let her know. She is making a pay-check just like you and me.
