The employer will simply pick the best candidate they can find rather than someone who need help most. At the end of day, they want the best value of their money and they are not running a charity.
Stay calm and professional. You have sent the interviewer a couple of emails and he must have known you are very keen on this role. If you performed well in your interview, he would certainly contact you.
