try to call boss again?

i don't know if this will help. but I agree with upstaires that they should cut contractors first unless your boss is really dislike you.

I would call boss and say that you really need this job and you want to be contractor or reduce salary? then looking for job elsewhere. It will be not as stressful at least have a job.

And call boss's boss to see if there is any posibilities. Be professional when talking and don't need to begging.
