Can Obama save us from doomsday?
Rodolfo Neirotti responds:
I would respond with another question: Are we looking for the wrong kind of
leadership?
With this concern in mind, I would like to post a paragraph from the book
*Real Leadership: Helping People and Organizations Face Their Toughest
Challenges* (2005), by Prof. Dean Williams, Center for
Public Leadership, Harvard’s John Kennedy School of Government.
Real leadership
“In a crisis we tend to look for the wrong kind of leadership. We call for
someone with answers, decision, strength, and a map for the future, someone
who knows where we ought to be going, in short someone who can make hard
problems simple. But hard problems are not simple. Instead of looking for
saviors, we should be calling for leadership that will challenge us to face
problems for which there are not simple, painless solutions, problems that
require us to learn new ways. Making progress on these problems demands not
someone who provides answers from on high but changes in our attitudes,
behavior, and values.”
Can Obama save us from doomsday?
